1. Image Processing and Image Recognition

As the multimedia technology is highly developed, image processing and image recognition using still images and videos become more important. Our research topics include face recognition used for person authentication, object recognition and tracking in the video sequences, and image compression for efficient transmission in time and space.

2. Pattern Recognition

Pattern recognition is a process to assign an observed pattern to the corresponding category. Pattern recognition technique have been applied to many objects, and there are many applications such as document recognition, character recognition and speech recognition. We are engaged in a broad range of research including pattern recognition theory and construction of recognition systems to realize a highly accurate recognition.

3. Parallel and Distributed Computing

In order to achieve faster computing and/or manage huge data, parallel and distributed computing is beneficial, which has become increasingly important in recent years. We are studying the distributed systems to efficiently manage large amounts of information or computer resources and doing research on CPU load prediction and task execution time prediction for load balancing and computing resource management. Our research topics also include parallel algorithms for specific problems on computer cluster or computer grid.
